Christmas Special Potato Gratin Recipe The Red Door Cafe


Some ancient dishes are not only not cooked, but many have not heard of them. For example, the festive Slavic dish is the apple tree. This, despite its strange name, is a casserole of potatoes, minced meat and mushrooms. Our ancestors knew a lot about food and loved a good table, and this recipe for potato casseroles is proof of that!

Prepare the products.
  • Products (6 servings)
  • Potato - 500 g
  • Minced meat - 300 g
  • Champignons - 80 g
  • Onions - 200 g
  • Eggs - 2 pcs.
  • Milk - 3 tbsp. l
  • Breadcrumbs - 20 g
  • Vegetable oil - 3 tbsp. l
  • Butter - 20 g
  • Salt - 1 tsp.
  • Ground black pepper - a pinch

How to Make Potato Gratin

Peel, rinse and cut the potatoes into several pieces. Boil potatoes in a saucepan over low heat until cooked, for 20 minutes, then drain the water.

In a pan with boiled potatoes, add milk (2 tbsp.), Butter and 1 egg. Mash thoroughly.

Cut mushrooms and onions into small cubes. Divide the onion into 2 parts, for frying the mushrooms and minced meat separately.

First, fry the onions in a preheated pan with vegetable oil.
Then add minced meat to the onion, pepper, salt and fry for 10-12 minutes on low heat.

Also fry the mushrooms with the second half of the onion, the frying time is about 10 minutes.

Grease a baking dish with butter and sprinkle with ground breadcrumbs.

Put the half of the potatoes with the first layer, smooth the layer with a spoon.

Next, lay out a layer of meat.

The next layer is fried mushrooms.

Put the remaining mashed potatoes in the final layer.
